The aim of this unit is to impart environmental sustainability related learning outcomes essential for construction industry.

Unit Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit should be able to:

  1. Describe the basic concepts of sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable construction
  2. Recognize the international, national and local regulation developments in the area of sustainability
  3. Appreciate the causes and effects of climate change
  4. Describe the effects of energy usage on greenhouse gas production and relevance of energy efficiency in buildings
  5. Demonstrate a functional knowledge of formulating and specifying practical measures for environmental sustainability that can be implemented in design and construction
  6. Apply sustainability techniques and appreciate their scopes and limitations
