KUCHING – Swinburne Sarawak recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with industry partner and medical company Ubisson Sdn. Bhd. to provide solutions towards a new paradigm in chronic disease management in Malaysia.
During the virtual ceremony, Swinburne Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer Ir. Professor Lau Hieng Ho exchanged the MoA with Ubisson Chief Executive Officer Peter Ting Yiik Pung to formalise the partnership.
Under the collaboration project, Swinburne’s Digital Health research team from its Swinburne Sarawak Centre for Digital Futures and BioTective, a digital healthcare division under Ubisson are working together to deliver a comprehensive continuum of care to patients with chronic diseases through digital transformation.
With the rapid convergence of medical devices with connectivity and wearable technologies, the project aims to facilitate seamless care coordination and effective communication for patients with their healthcare providers across all ICT platforms.
The project involves the design and development of a new health monitoring and management system with mobile apps and an online cloud-based system to be utilised by healthcare consumers and multidisciplinary healthcare providers with the presence of IT, smart applications and monitoring devices.
By transforming various ICT platforms into a Disease Resource Centre (DRC), the project’s objective is to provide a total care solution to functionality, medical analytics, virtual care teams and remote monitoring, ultimately transforming healthcare practices and patient care in the digital era to deliver real positive clinical outcome for chronic disease management.
In his welcoming address, Professor Lau expressed his appreciation towards Ubisson as its industry partner in enabling Swinburne to deliver its mission of developing people through education and research that provides long-term economic and social benefits to both local and international communities.

As the project’s Principal Investigator, Director of Swinburne’s Centre for Digital Futures and Head of School of Information and Communication Technologies Professor Patrick Then remarked that the research collaboration further extends the capability of Swinburne’s digital health research team in translating fundamental research into commercial applications.
Present to witness the virtual event were Ubisson Product Development Director William Liang, Swinburne Executive Dean of Research Associate Professor Dr Ida Fatimawati bt Adi Badiozaman, Swinburne Director of School of Research Associate Professor Lau Bee Theng, and other representatives from both organisations.
