Golden Key Swinburne Sarawak chapter members sworn in

KUCHING – More than 20 top students of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus who had registered with Golden Key, an international honour society, took their oath of membership recently.

They were led by Professor Ken Heskin, who is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne Sarawak. Heskin is the honorary member of the society.

Present at the swearing in was Eliza Abbas, University Relations Officer (Malaysia), of Golden Key International Honour Society.

The first AGM of Golden Key Swinburne Sarawak Chapter will be held on 20 December this year where the executive committee will be named.

Golden Key celebrates academic excellence, leadership and service. It recognises high achievements, and membership includes students from all areas of study, all ages, and all nationalities. The only criterion for joining is that a student must be among the top 15%.

The organisation was founded in 1977 in Georgia State University in the US by a group of motivated students who envisaged an honour society that would celebrate academic excellence, leadership and service.

Today it is one of the largest honour societies in the world, with a network of over two million students and alumni worldwide. It works with over 400 universities around the globe and has partnerships with 31 universities in Australia, two in New Zealand, 12 in Malaysia, and one university and several colleges in India.

Golden Key provides its members with access to scholarships, study abroad opportunities, career and training material, leadership and community service initiatives. Its mission is to enable members to realize their potential through the advancement of academics, leadership and service.

It offers up to US$1 million in scholarships and awards, as well as various internship and study abroad opportunities exclusive to its members. Scholarships for postgraduate and undergraduate students, specific disciplines, as well as research grants are also offered.
