KUCHING – A mobile game created by final year multimedia design undergraduates from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus is now available on Microsoft’s Windows Phone Store.
The side scrolling game dubbed “UnFold” was built by five students as their final year project in only 10 weeks.
The university partnered with Nokia Malaysia for the project, where the communications and information technology multinational company provided its latest devices, including the Lumia 1520 Windows Phone 8 high-end smartphone, worth more than RM10,000.
“The game was based on the history of Nokia. It has four different stages to unfold, hence the name of the game,” said multimedia design lecturer John Hii who supervised the students.
“All stages of the game are designed beautifully with animation and visual effects. The stages are based on Nokia’s manufacturing line such as the paper, rubber, electronic and current and future of Nokia mobile,” Hii said.
The support from Nokia Malaysia allowed the students to produce a great game that can be enjoyed by all Windows phone users and by all ages, he added.
It was well-received by representatives of Nokia Malaysia, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and other industry partners during a demonstration by the students, last year.
The game was recently approved by Microsoft and made available on its Windows Phone Store, a digital distribution platform created by Microsoft which allows users to browse and download applications developed by third-parties.
