KUCHING – Swinburne’s School of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) recently organised the ‘Journey Towards The Cloud with Swinburne and AWS’, an online webinar on the world of Cloud Computing and how it affects the world.
More than 100 participants joined the webinar which was presented by the Head of Solutions Architecture of AWS Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Sasha Jensen, Global Head of Talent Acquisition of Sourced Group. Also part of the webinar were Professor Patrick Then, Head of School of ICT and Director of Centre for Digital Futures, and Dr Brian Loh, lecturer from the School of ICT.
With her presentation ‘Trends and Career Pathways in the Cloud Industry’, Jensen covered the evolution of the global cloud industry over the last 10 years. In addition to sharing about key trends and skills requirements, she also spoke on the wide landscape of job opportunities that require competency in cloud computing that leads to a future where a brand-new trend of job opportunities is awaiting graduating students.
Cloud computing platforms have provided massive opportunities for businesses to shift their operations from on-premise to remote cloud facilities. However, in certain parts of the world such as in South Asia and Southeast Asia regions, people who are equipped with cloud skills are still scarcely available.
At Swinburne Sarawak, the university is committed to delivering a variety of comprehensive cloud computing courses. Offered via the Bachelor of Computer Science and Master of Information Technology, cloud computing courses through AWS Academy enrich students’ skillsets and knowledge in cloud computing.
“Students are exposed to real-life scenarios where cloud computing is used and also taught how to engineer cloud architectures to meet all stakeholders’ expectations and needs,” said Professor Then.
Dr Loh who is also an AWS Academy accredited educator, said that the cloud computing courses in Swinburne Sarawak are constantly updated with industry use cases to provide a premium learning experience to students. He added that the teaching environment and content embedded within these courses provide a baseline for students to prepare themselves towards cloud certifications.
