Swinburne dominates MASISWA for 7 consecutive years

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus once again proved its unbeatable prowess at the recent MASISWA (Majlis Sukan IPTS Malaysia) Games Sarawak Zone 2018 after emerging as the overall champion for the seventh time.

With an overall score of 104, Swinburne won with a big majority defeating first runner-up University College of Technology Sarawak (overall score 43) and second runner-up Technology College Sarawak (overall score 34).

The powerhouse took home the gold medals for ten-pin bowling, basketball, badminton (mixed double, women single and men single), chess (single and team) and ping pong (women double).

They also won silver for badminton (women double and men single), chess (single), futsal (male), and ping pong (men single, women single and mixed double), as well as bronze for badminton (men double), chess (single), volleyball, and ping pong (men single, men double, women single and women double).

A total of 690 athletes from 19 private institutions of higher learning in Sarawak participated in the annual sporting event. They competed in eight games namely futsal, netball, basketball, ping pong, ten-pin bowling, volleyball and chess.

The Swinburne team was led by Chief De Mission Abdul Rahim bin Mohammad. The Sarawak zone event was organised by Swinburne’s Aniziatun Basar and MASISWA Secretariat from various private institutions of higher learning in Kuching and coordinated by MASISWA Coordinator Sarawak Zone Mohamed Hisyam bin Jamal Mohamed.

The closing ceremony held at MBKS Indoor Stadium was attended by MASISWA Advisor Dato’ Professor Ir. Dr Kamal Nasharuddin Mustapha, MASISWA Coordinator Sabah Zone Morsede Mohammad and guests from the participating institutions of higher learning.
