KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus signed memorandums of understanding with five organisations on various areas of research, student and youth development as well as graduate employment, recently.
The five are Daitoku Sdn Bhd, Koperasi Pro Belia Inovatif Sarawak Berhad (KOBIS), Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF), Heah Seok Yeong Realty Sdn Bhd, and Sarawak Entrepreneurs Association.
Daitoku Sdn Bhd is one of the pioneers in Sarawak in the application of green technologies on sustainable oil palm waste management. It is also a pioneer in the research and development of bioconversion technologies for the production of useful bio-fertilizers and bio-based materials from oil palm wastes (through collaboration with Swinburne).
Swinburne Sarawak and Daitoku will collaborate on finding ways to better manage palm oil waste sustainably, especially in developing a cocktail of natural microbes that can efficiently decompose waste in an environmentally friendly manner.
KOBIS (or Sarawak Youth Innovation Co-operative) was registered in 2011 and operates from its office in Pending, Kuching. It acts as a platform for youth development activities with the concept “from youth, to youth, by youth”.
KOBIS and Swinburne Sarawak will work together to help young people develop a passion for innovation in various fields and recognise their entrepreneurship skills.
MIDF is a diversified group of companies with core businesses in investment banking, asset management and development finance and is an employer in the financial industry.
Under the MoU, MIDF and Swinburne Sarawak will establish a program of cooperation for sourcing graduating students of Swinburne to be enrolled in MIDF’s Management Associate Programme with a view to potential employment at MIDF.
Heah Seok Yeong Realty Sdn Bhd was established in 1953 by Lim Chang Chee. Initially a property manager, the company ventured into plantations, starting with rubber trading in 1973 and is now a palm oil estate owner.
The company is actively pursuing the use of technologies to increase efficiency and productivity in plantations and is collaborating with Swinburne Sarawak to develop advanced mechanization for the palm oil industry.
SEA is a non-profit organization set up by a group of entrepreneurs to assist Malaysian SMEs leverage the use of ICT solutions and advanced business processes that will enable them to remain competitive in the era of globalization and trade liberalization.
SEA is also involved in the development of Malaysia’s ICT industry by creating an environment that helps to develop world class technopreneurs and indigenous ICT companies that are capable of competing in the global market.
SEA and Swinburne Sarawak will develop a joint working relationship in promoting business networking opportunities among Malaysian companies in general.
