KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus will be hosting the 11th International Conference on Advances in Steel Structures (ICASS’2023) on 6 and 7 December 2023 at The Waterfront Hotel Kuching and Swinburne Sarawak campus.
This international conference is intended to provide a forum for researchers and professionals to discuss and disseminate recent advances in analysis, behaviour, design and construction of steel, aluminium and composite steel-concrete structures.
ICASS is a distinguished international conference series initiated in 1996 by Chair Professor S L Chan from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, organised every two years around the world. Previous conferences were held in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Nanjing, Lisbon and Chengdu. ICASS’2023 will be unique, as it will be the first to be held in Malaysia, and particularly Sarawak.
ICASS’2023 has invited 13 keynote speakers to present various state-of-the-art topics on steel structures. The keynote speakers include Presidents or Vice Presidents of international universities, distinguished researchers among the top 1% in the world, Chief Editors of top engineering journals and structural steel design standards drafters.
YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and also the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, will grace the opening ceremony for ICASS’2023 on 6 December at The Waterfront Hotel Kuching. Sustainable use of steel structures has significant potential to be used in Sarawak’s infrastructure and housing.
The event will also witness the launching of a new Malaysian Design Standards ‘MS EN 1992-4: Design of fastenings for use in concrete’ on 7 December by YBrs Encik Shaharul Sadri Alwi, Director General of Department of Standards Malaysia. There will be 130 papers to be presented by participants on the same day.
