Swinburne has ranked in the top 176-200 in Engineering and Technology in the 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject, improving on its top 250 position from 2019.
Swinburne’s commitment to creating social and economic impact has seen the university consistently rise in international rankings and receive global recognition for its world-class research and education.
“The World University Rankings have placed our core disciplines in Engineering and Technology among the best two percent in the world,” says Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), Professor Aleksander Subic.
Swinburne was also ranked by Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 by subject in the areas of:
- Computer Science: 251-300
- Arts and Humanities: 301-400
Notably, Swinburne’s Computer Science ranking improved from 301-400 the previous year.
In September, Swinburne placed in the top 400 of the world’s best universities in the 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, positioning Swinburne in the top three per cent of universities worldwide.
These rankings follow several world-leading Swinburne achievements in various areas:
- A new Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society
- The launch of Australia’s first Master of Financial Technologies (FinTech) in partnership with Bendigo Bank
- A $2 million Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) project to develop new technology that will allow live monitoring of milk supply chains
- A $990,000 grant from the Automotive Engineering Graduate Program on behalf of the federal government to establish a research hub for engineering, design and development of future vehicle technologies
A strategy that transforms
As part of Swinburne’s 2020 Research and Innovation Strategy, Swinburne seeks to advance the university’s global presence and reputation by building on its strengths in science, technology and innovation.
“This continued improvement of our world-class research in our areas of focus reflects the commitment of our researchers and staff who are working diligently to ensure that Swinburne is a leading university in science, engineering and technology,” says Professor Subic.
