KUCHING – Two teams from Swinburne were among the recipients of 50 Best Teams award in the Preliminary Round of PNB (Permodalan Nasional Berhad) Investment Quiz 2019.
Undergraduate students Tan Si Xuan, Alicia Foo Mei Fen, Grace Tiong Jia Zhen and Christopher Tiong Lee Siong competed under the Higher Institution Learning category, and each was awarded a cash prize of RM100 for ASNB unit trust investment.
Other participating institutions of higher learning were IPG Kampus Tun Hussein Onn, Johor; Multimedia University, Cyberjaya; Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman; Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia; Universiti Malaysia Terengganu; Universiti Malaya; Universiti Sains Malaysia; Universiti Putra Malaysia; and UiTM Puncak Alam.
In this preliminary round, the participants were exposed to financial planning, risk and return concept, unit trust industry as well as PNB Group products and services. They were also tested on their knowledge in investment, economic, financial and concept of long-term investment. Apart from that, the participants were required to conduct online quiz in pair in Bahasa.
Swinburne has been participating in the PNB investment Quiz since 2013. This year, the preliminary round was coordinated by Programme Coordinator of School of Foundation Studies (Business, Design and Communication) Shella Georgina Beatrice, and finance lecturers Dr Yii Kwang Jing and Lisa Ngui Lee Hua from the School of Business.
PNB, Malaysia’s government-linked investment company, first launched the investment quiz event in 2000 as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort. It aims to promote the importance of financial management to university students as well as PNB’s investment services.
Swinburne’s School of Business offers Bachelor of Business (single major) in Accounting, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, and Marketing, as well as double major in Accounting and Finance, or Management and Digital Media. The course curriculum taught and assessments conducted are equivalent and aligned to identical learning outcomes offered at the main campus in Melbourne, Australia.
The courses are accredited and recognised by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The School is accredited by AACSB International.
