UiTM Malacca students visit Swinburne Sarawak

KUCHING – To learn about international business, 40 undergraduate students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Malacca flew in to Kuching and visited Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, recently.

Led by Associate Professor Hajah Mariamah Mohd Ali, a lecturer from UiTM’s Faculty of Business Management, the students who are all majoring in international business were participants of an academic trip dubbed “Sarawak: International Business Encounters” organised by the university’s International Business Unity Club.

To aid the visitors along with their learning were Professor Debiprasad Dash, Head of Swinburne Sarawak’s School of Business and Design, and lecturer Dr Ngui Kwang Sing, who discussed issues in international business with the students.

Henry Tie, a Swinburne Sarawak student who recently completed his Bachelor of Commerce in marketing and plans to further his postgraduate studies at the Sarawak campus, was also involved in the discussion. He told the visiting students that “It is very crucial for us to think global and act local in today’s speedily globalised era”.

By coming to Sarawak, Mariamah said it is hoped that the students will learn about the state’s business culture, its economic development as well as its multicultural diversity, and more importantly, to build good relationships with other university students.

“It’s a good that we have an opportunity to explore Sarawak and have a look at this Australian university campus (Swinburne Sarawak) in Malaysia,” said Mariamah.

“We have visited Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, and Manila in our previous academic trips and we are looking forward to going to Australia in the near future,” she said.

The group was given a tour of the campus. Siti Nur Ramizah was among one of the UiTM students who was impressed with the campus.

“I am impressed by the massive campus and the wide-ranging facilities that Swinburne Sarawak offers,” she said.

An opportunity to interact with Swinburne Sarawak’s international students was also organised for the visitors, where they discussed matters pertaining to international business and studies in general.

Before leaving for home, the group stopped by at the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation, Kuching Port Authority, Borneo Convention Centre, Satok market, Sarawak Cultural Village, and the Kuching Waterfront.
