Ms Wendy teaches the fundamental principles of accounting, financial information systems and application of accounting tools for business decision making. In line with Swinburne’s focus to prepare students for employment, she brings the industry into the classrooms by sharing with students her experience as a Chartered Accountant and management consultant.
Wendy has about 15 years of industry experience in both the public sector in New Zealand and the private sector in Malaysia before joining Swinburne Sarawak as a lecturer in 2004. She began her career as an auditor with the New Zealand Audit Office. In Malaysia, she held various positions in the information technology industry, public transport service industry and human resource development industry. With her interest in performance management and information systems, Wendy has implemented financial information systems for various clients as well as trained and provided technical support to these clients. She was also a member of the consulting team implementing Balanced Scorecard projects for the State Government.
At Swinburne Sarawak, she has undertaken both academic and administrative roles. She has been a lecturer and tutor for units of study at the Diploma, Foundation, Bachelors and Masters qualification levels. She has also developed a pre-university curriculum for self-motivation, based on Stephen Covey’s “7 habits for Highly Effective People”.
In recent years, Wendy, in her capacity as the Manager of the Policy, Planning and Quality Unit, has established and led Swinburne Sarawak’s quality management unit. She has worked with colleagues across Swinburne Melbourne and Swinburne Sarawak to secure Swinburne Sarawak’s self-accreditation status, registration of Swinburne Sarawak’s numerous academic programs with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (AgensiKelayakan Malaysia) and the Malaysian Public Service Department (Jabatan PerkhidmatanAwam), various program accreditations with both Australian and Malaysian professional bodies as well as Swinburne Sarawak’s Tier 5 Excellent rating in the 2009, 2011 and 2013 Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA). She also represented Swinburne Sarawak as the elected Sabah and Sarawak Zone representative for 2014 to 2016 in the Malaysian Higher Education Institutions Quality Assurance Network (MyQAN).
On her return to the Faculty of Business and Design in 2015, Wendy continues to pursue her academic and research interests, and collaborates with colleagues across faculties to deliver research results.
