Professor Sandra Gifford of the Centre for Urban Transitions, Swinburne Melbourne, will be facilitating a workshop centred on revising unpublished research papers, thesis chapters or conference presentations for submission to academic journals for review and publication.

This workshop is open to all academic staff and higher degree by research students, especially those who wish to publish in humanities, education and/or social science journals.
For this workshop, participants will be required to use the workbook “Writing Your Journal Article in 12 Weeks: A Guide to Academic Publishing Success” by Wendy Belcher. Topics covered include (but are not limited to):
- Making a plan for writing
- Selecting a journal
- Reviewing the literature
- Presenting the evidence
- Opening and concluding the article
- Writing an abstract
- Submission and responding to journal decisions
After the workshop, there will be informal follow-up sessions (Skype “meet ups”) over the next 4 months, culminating in another two-day workshop at the end of November. The key goal for all participants is to submit their article to a suitable journal by December 2017.
Please bring along your written research in the form of a conference presentation, thesis chapter, research essay or unpublished article.
