Swinburne Sarawak’s Faculty of Language and Communication played host to twenty-two teachers from thirteen institutions of higher learning in China who participated in the Australian Education Management Group’s Professional Development Program. The program, starting the 24th of July, was carried out over three weeks. Instructors Stephen Walker and Norizan Tan guided the participants in applying theories of English as a Second Language (ESL) learning and teaching. Among the activities were independent and cooperative learning, task based learning, action research, online discussions and journals, as well as off-campus excursions to the Sarawak Cultural Village, Annah Rais, and Semenggoh. The aims of the program were for the participants to understand curriculum design, classroom issues and practices, activity creation, as well as creating assessments.
