In the midst of COVID-19 lockdowns, secondary school students (especially those in rural area) did not have the opportunity to conduct Chemistry experiments in school labs. As a stepping stone towards solving this problem, the Science program staff had designed home-based Chemistry Kits for SPM students to learn electrochemistry. As a trial run, 20 of these Chemistry kits were given to SMK St Columba for a pilot run. In total, 20 students participated in the pilot Chemistry workshop using the home-based Chemistry Kits under teacher supervision on 7 Dec 2021. From the feedback, students indicated that they had fun during the workshop and gained new Chemistry knowledge. These Chemistry kits would be further refined before being rolled out to rural school students.
