The Swinburne Debater’s Club is one of the most dynamic and exciting clubs on campus. Founded in 2005, the club has hosted the prestigious Yayasan Sarawak English Debating Championship and since 2006, the annual Swinburne Sarawak Inter-School Debating Championship, our home-grown debate tournament for secondary school students. Initially open only to schools in Kuching, the tournament has expanded to bring to our campus more than 140 participants from schools in Kuching, Miri, Sibu and most recently, Pontianak.

Every year, the club also hosts the intra Swinburne Debating Championship and the Swinburne Public Speaking Challenge. Students from all backgrounds and nationalities meet twice a week to spar and train not only among Swinburne students but also with those from other tertiary institutions and even secondary school students who wish to improve their debating skills. Our Club and campus have become the home to debaters in Kuching, with the twice-weekly training sessions being the highlight of each debater’s week.
