More than 30 companies to take part in Swinburne Sarawak job fair

KUCHING –Fresh graduates looking to secure employment will have much to gain from a career and employment fair at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus this Wednesday, 24 April.

More than 30 companies from a range of industries including oil and gas, engineering, banking, telecommunications and insurance, will be setting up booths on the campus at the 9:00am to 4:30pm event.

“The fair serves as a convenient one-stop meeting place for graduates and companies, allowing them to explore employment opportunities in a somewhat informal setting,” said Haji Hussain Taiban, the Registrar and Director of the Student Operations Division at the university.

“Although the fair is organised by Swinburne Sarawak as a service to our students, graduates and industry partners, graduates and students from other private and public institutions of higher learning are also welcome to the event,” he said.

As some of the companies will be looking to recruit personnel, Hussain advises visitors to bring along copies of their resume, result transcript, IC and other documents that may be of relevance for job applications.

Meanwhile students looking to undertake internships will also find the fair to be a good hunting ground, Hussain said.

“Some of the participating companies have good internship programs so I would encourage those who are looking to do their industry training to make use of this opportunity by visiting the fair, too” he said.

Apart from the booths, a number of activities are also being organised. Visitors stand a chance to win a mini iPad by taking part in a “Scavenger Hunt” where they will need to locate information on the participating companies. This starts from 10:00am to 2:00pm and the first 50 participants will receive gifts.

Also available is a personality assessment for those who are still considering their choice of career, from 9:00am to 11:00am. All one needs to do is answer a number of questions on a computer while counsellors from the university will offer guidance based on the result of the assessment.
