Two Swinburne Sarawak lecturers get Apple certification

KUCHING – US multinational company Apple Inc, which created the iPhone and iPad, recently certified two lecturers from Sarawak as trainers for its software.

Multimedia design lecturers John Hii and Wilson Suai from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus were awarded the “Apple Foundation Trainer” certification.

They received the certification after completing a workshop in Kuala Lumpur conducted by Apple.

The course was designed for technology coordinators, curriculum integration specialists, those mentoring other lecturers, and teachers.

With the certification, Hii and Wilson are qualified to train university lecturers, school teachers and students on Apple programs, namely iOS Devices, iOS Creativity, iOS Productivity, iOS for Administrators, OS X, iLife, iWork, iBooks Author, iTunes U Course Manager, and Workflow for Teaching and Learning.

“John and I are glad to have taken part as it was the first to be held in Malaysia and participation was by invitation only,” Wilson said.

A total of 26 participants attended the five-day workshop. Wilson and Hii were the only participants from Sarawak.

They were trained on Apple tools and devices to enhance teaching and learning, as well as workshop facilitation skills to help them train other teachers.

The participants were also presented with a set of resources to run similar programs.

“We now look forward to training our students and academic staff with the syllabus provided, this year,” Wilson said, adding that certificates of attendance from Apple will be given to the participants.
