We are MASISWA champion for second year

KUCHING – Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus proved to be a sports powerhouse when it won the recent MASISWA Sports Carnival Sarawak Zone for the second consecutive year.

The Australian branch campus, the champion of the 2012 games, beat 11 other institutions of higher learning in the state to lift the championship trophy in the 27 to 29 September competition.

Trailing behind in second and third places were Unitar International University and Institut Teknologi Maklumat Nusantara, respectively.

Swinburne Sarawak was again unstoppable in futsal, table tennis, bowling and netball, winning the top three places in these events. It also showed it was no pushover in volleyball, badminton and chess.

The only event it did not shine was in sepak takraw where it failed to make it to the top three spot.

“I couldn’t be happier with our performance after having won the games for the second time running. We had an exciting three days and all the hard work preparing for the big day paid off as we did well in many of the events we competed in,” said Swinburne Sarawak Chef de Mission Ahmad Hisham Abdul Halim.

Majlis Sukan IPTS Malaysia (MASISWA) Secretary-General Tuan Haji Ariffin Bin Mohamed Yusof presented the trophies.

Also present at the closing ceremony was Professor Anthony Cahalan, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne Sarawak, who joined his team in celebrating the victory.

Swinburne Sarawak was made host of the games again this year by MASISWA which was impressed with its organisation and management of last year’s meet.

The co-hosts were Kolej SATT Sarawak, Lim Kok Wing Institute of Creative Technology, Kolej Sunway Kuching and Kolej Multimedia (Sarawak).
