Associate Professor Dr. Chua received his B.Eng. (Hons) Degree in Communication and Control Engineering from UMIST, U.K. in 2002. After his first degree, he joined the Microwave Engineering group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering as a Ph.D. research student under the joint sponsorship of Overseas Research Studentship (ORS), U.K. and Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), U.K.
During his research, he won the IEE Robinson Research Scholarship in 2003 and 2004. Besides, he was also awarded the IEE travel grant to present a paper at the IEEE MTT-s Conference, Long Beach, U.S.A. in June 2005. He completed his Ph.D. by submitting his thesis entitled “Characterisation of wheat grain using microwave, terahertz and magnetic resonance imaging techniques” in January 2006.
After completing his PhD, he worked as a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with The University of Manchester, U.K. His main research interests include the application of microwave sensors to food characterisation, optical sensors for chemical characterisation, and modelling and simulation of micro-grid.
